Keyboard shortcut symbols
Command, option, shift, return and the rest — for tutorials, docs and cheat sheets.
Mac documentation has used Unicode glyphs for modifier keys since the System 7 era: ⌘ for command, ⌥ for option, ⇧ for shift, ⌃ for control. Apple's own Human Interface Guidelines specify these exact codepoints, which is why they appear in every well-written macOS tutorial and keyboard cheat sheet.
On non-Apple platforms the convention is looser, but the same glyphs translate cleanly: ⇧ + ↵ for shift-enter, ⌫ for backspace, ⎋ for escape. The result is a notation that's compact, language-independent and copy-pasteable into any documentation system.
