About the overline symbol

A horizontal line drawn above the text baseline, the overline resembles a macron but is typically longer and spans multiple characters in typesetting. It is used in mathematics to indicate a repeating decimal (for example, 0.3‾ represents 0.333...), in digital contexts to denote a logical NOT operation, and historically in medieval manuscripts to mark abbreviations or numerals. As a punctuation mark, it also appears in some technical notations and as a spacing diacritic when combined with other symbols.
